What is your #1 life goal and Why? I love to ask this question. It is a simple one, only a handful of human beings can give me a an answer in 15 seconds or less. It often comes with a lot of muffled words one of top of another. Which seem to make sense, but really doesn't.

About Goal planning, life and leadership
What is your Life #1 Goal - Your Life's Purpose?

Welcome to your life. There is a lot of busyness, a lot of stuff on the To Do list... Which stresses you out. I spent years researching goal setting and goal achievement. I am obsessed about this topic which if done right can help you achieve what is best for you - what you need vs. what you want. A few questions to start with:

“ What is your Number One goal? Why is it your goal? For how long will this be your goal? Why is it your Number One goal right now? What will happen if you don't reach that goal? Give me 10 reasons why it is your goal. Do you have a life designed to achieve this goal?”

Why are you doing all this? What is your end goal? Does your To Do list align with your life aka end goal? Think

1-Year List

Every year, during the months of December and January, I take a couple of hours to re-think my life and go deeper into my life goals which I drafted the year before. I complete the wheel of life self-assessment tool to understand which part of my life is not working right now and is not aligned with what I'm up to creating. Because there is always one area that is misaligned and one area that is doing extremely well.

These are the wheel of life categories:

  • Business, Career & Studies: Is your career where you want it to be by now? Are you heading in the right direction?

  • Finance & Wealth: Are you earning enough income to satisfy your current needs? Are you financial setup for future growth in wealth?

  • Health & Fitness: How physically healthy are you? Are you satisfied with your level of fitness? Are you satisfied with your diet?

  • Social & Friends: Are your friends supportive of you? Are you engaging friends and socializing to your satisfaction levels?

  • Family: Is your family supportive of you? Are you supportive of your family?

  • Love: Do you feel loved? How often are you expressing love to others?

  • Recreation & Fun: Are you enjoying your life and making it fun? Are you satisfied with the level of activity that you do?

  • Contribution: How would others rate your contribution to society or them as individuals?

  • Personal Growth: How focused are you on personal growth? Are you satisfied with your direction? Are you trying new experiences and seeking to learn?

  • Spiritual: How connected are you to the inner and outer world? Are you satisfied with your relationship with your spiritual being?

  • Self-Image: Do you think of your abilities highly? Do you respect and love yourself? Do you appreciate yourself?

10-Year List

During that yearly check-in, I also take the time to re-assess what I want to accomplish in the next 10 years. Have I been consistently making progress on these sub-goals? Do these goals truly align with my life purpose (my #1 goal for which I wake up and breathe every day?). Think about it and share your thoughts.
